With nitrous oxide sedation, you can experience a peaceful and even dream-like state during your treatment. Once the procedure is completed, the dentist will turn off the nitrous oxide, allowing you to resume normal breathing. You may feel slightly fatigued or drowsy afterward, but you can return home and resume your regular activities with ease.
What does Sedation mean?
Sedation involves the alleviation of pain and anxiety in a conscious patient. This means that the patient will remain awake and capable of responding verbally. Vital signs will be closely monitored to ensure stability throughout the dental procedure. There is minimal risk of losing protective reflexes, and the patient can swiftly return to their normal state within 3-5 minutes after the removal of the nasal mask.

Sedation Procedure
- The sedation process begins with the placement of a nasal mask over the patient's nose, followed by normal inhalation through the nose.
- The sedation device contains two gas containers: one for oxygen and the other for nitrous gas.
- The dentist will monitor vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation by using a small device attached to the patient's finger.
- As the patient inhales the gas, sedation gradually takes effect, resulting in a slight heaviness sensation in the limbs and head.
- Upon removing the mask, the patient typically returns to a normal state within 3-5 minutes.
