Oral Care and Preventive Dentistry

What is Oral Care and Preventive Dentistry?

Preventive Dentistry is dental care that helps maintain good oral health. It refers to any activity that works to prevent oral health issues. At Dr. Aburas Dental Centre in Dubai we focus on keeping your teeth, gums, and mouth as healthy as possible to prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and other issues.

How do we do it?

At Dr. Aburas Dental Centre in Dubai we include dental services such as routine oral exams, regular checkups, X-Rays, cleanings, sealants, and fluoride treatment to help you maintain oral health. We provide instructions on proper brushing and flossing methods, advise on proper healthy diet to prevent tooth decay.

Home Oral Hygiene Tips

The most important part of oral care and preventive dentistry is regular brushing and flossing at least two times in a day or after every meal. It helps get rid of plaque, which if not removed can result in acid-producing bacteria that causes enamel decay and gum disorders.

Fluoride Application

Fluoride reinforces teeth and prevents tooth decay. Our dentists at the clinic will usually recommend you to use toothpaste and mouthwash containing fluoride.

Mouth Guards

Depending on the requirement we may recommend the use of mouth guard if you are a sports person or having bruxism (a problem in which you unconsciously grind or clench your teeth.), or in treatment of the TMJ disorders.

Sealants are a thin coating painted on the chewing surfaces of teeth, usually the back teeth (the premolars and molars) to prevent tooth decay. The liquid sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth. We usually advise this procedure for clients who are at increased risk of caries due to factors such as poor oral hygiene, lack of exposure to fluoride, previous and present caries experience, any current orthodontic treatment. High sugar diet also increases the patient’s susceptibility to dental caries. Sealants prevent the most cavities when applied soon after permanent molars come into the mouth (around age 6 for 1st molars and age 12 for 2nd molars).
